New Unicode / Emoji Motorcycle Symbol

Noticed the story, “‘Racing Motorcycle’ Emoji Finally Coming to a Smartphone Near You – A Headline We Never Thought We’d Write” on Asphalt & Rubber today which got my nerdy side excited. Any emoji-centric texting (or even instramming) between motorcyclists can now be one-upped. No more blasting cloud following the bicycle symbol… don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Here’s the kicker though- I actually dug through pages of boring Unicode website that looks like it was designed in 1999 and found the real new “Racing Motorcycle” unicode symbol.

Which really could just be called, “Sport Bike Rider” but eh, whatever. I’ll be happy if it ends up on our smart phones. It’s the little things, right?

Yeah, so basically here it is in a row of other emoji/unicode symbols. #1F3CD

As you can see from 1F3CE, they also added a Formula 1 race car.

It’s a bit boring in black and white, as are most the “wingding/webding” versions of the emojis in their original unicode forms. Basically, different developers and platforms decide to render Unicode characters however they see fit. Sometimes they choose to leave certain characters out altogether. For instance, they recently added a middle finger emoji as well as a Vulcan salute… but that doesn’t mean Apple will let them show up on your iPhone. It’s entirely up to developers which new Unicode 7.0 additions will grace us as emojis.

So, hopefully soon a emoji motorcycle will come to a phone near you.
