Seven years ago today Brittany Morrow was torn off the back of a sportbike in a gust of wind… hitting the ground at a high speed wearing an oversized helmet, sneakers, sweater and capri jeans over her bikini. She slid and tumbled 552 feet down the highway, wishing she had lost consciousness and thinking she would not live to see another day.

Two months in the hospital and skin grafts on over 50 percent of her body, Brittany went through some serious pain on the road to recovery. She now uses her experience to educate motorcyclists (new and old) of proper gear, running Rock the Gear Inc… and yes, she still rides!

It sometimes feels like a bummer posting this stuff- but it’s a reality of the motorcycle world.
Trevor Ware travelled the America on a vintage Honda- a 1974 CB 550. Recently he was rear ended by a drunk driver and is in a coma. They are selling shirts, accepting donations, and definitely appreciate any reposting of this graphic.
You can watch video of his adventure, “When Were You Young?” on vimeo, read about his trip of Kern Country Kid blogspot, and donate directly to his fund through EverRibbon.
And I’m sorry, but I just have to say it. PLEASE WEAR A FULL FACE HELMET. All of you!

A lesson to be learned from a lovely lady- why you should wear a full face helmet.

This is not an invitation to lecture the lovely Emma Bass- she kindly allowed me to post these photos to help educate y’all with some real life stuff.

No, you don’t have to wear gear, a full face helmet, or gloves when you ride. You can get away with a DOT half helmet (aka skull bucket or skid lid) paired with shorts and flip flops. But please please please realize that cars and their drivers are unpredictable, unaware, and often aggressive

A Dodge Ram attempted to blast across four lanes of traffic right in front of her and her Triumph Bonneville, leaving her bike embedded in the side of the truck. She was traveling the speed limit (35mph) and was not lane splitting (it is legal in California). She is extremely lucky to have escaped with minor bruises, including this one to her chin.

A crowd comes to the rescue of a motorcyclist trapped under a 4000lb burning car. This is the kind of thing our world needs. (Not the coppers standing around pointing at things, but actual citizens helping citizens.)

The motorcyclist underwent surgery on Monday and is currently stable. Given that he was lacking any and all safety gear, it’s an understatement to say this rider is lucky to be alive.

The Road Rash Queen

Brittany Morrow is a moto lady who was ripped off the bike by heavy wind while riding pillion on the back of a sport bike. When people argue with me about the importance of gear, I quote instances like this.

55 percent body coverage of third degree burns, severed tendons in my left pinky finger, a severely dislocated right big toe, and a large amount of blood loss; what really slowed the healing process was what I experienced in the hospital. Indirect results of the accident due to a prolonged hospital stay: pneumonia, urinary tract infection, pseudomonas infection, blood infection, a blood clot in my left leg, yeast infections, anemia, 3 blood transfusions with 1 adverse reaction, 8 surgeries, 31 conscious sedations, countless skin debreedments, and undiagnosed PTSD and depression. Helmet Protester Dies of Head Trauma

A 55 year old motorcyclist from Parish, New York, went on a ride Sunday organized by the Onondaga chapter of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) during which he sustained head trauma and died.

The ironic part of this tragedy is that he was protesting wearing a state-required helmet. A helmet that would have saved his life.

My thoughts and love are with Erica right now- she was involved in a motorcycle accident last night and is currently in ICU. She is stable. That’s really all we know.
Erica is a lovely moto lady who’s been featured on this site before (see here), my coworker, and a truly wonderful person. She is also a tough cookie and will, no doubt, spring back in a jiffy.

Above is a photo of Erica & I modeling for MotoCorsa’s facebook special. Much love, Erica.

Near miss.

Near miss.

Motorcyclist gets rear ended and lands on his feet, more or less. Cager is all, “Oh my god, are you okay?” Pretty sure that is the stupidest question of all time.

My reply- “…I could be better.”
