Pandora and I were unable to make it to the Handbuilt Motorcycle Show in Austin, Texas on April 11th and 12th this year. The event is snuggled up to MotoGP and features the Wall of Death, a full bar, and works of Shinya Kimura, Walt Siegl, Revival Cycles, Boyle Custom Moto, and one of my favorite motoladies Sofi Tsingos plus a ton of other talented folks. Sofi and Brandon LaJoie of GT Moto (website) helped out with some awesome photos and words on the event.
"First, I would like to say how mind blowing the show was. Last year I was about a block away from the One Show during Moto GP and missed it by half an hour. So I asked to get off work in advance to make sure I could make it this year. I had NO idea my CB550 and I would be invited to actually be in the show! After arriving, I just stopped at the door as soon as I saw the talent that was there.
Sofi Tsingos has launched the website for her awesome project, GT Cafe for Cause! After her father George was diagnosed with Cancer she started this project to help keep his mind off the battle. I invited her to write a guest article.

Moto Media XXX (fb) is the brainchild of Sasha Valentine, Co-Founder of the International Blog site Café Racer XXX and Breeann Poland, former AMA Pro Road Racing Team Manager. This year in Florida at Daytona International Speedway during Daytona 200, they’ll be bringing something new to the event. Music all day, custom cafe builds and art on display, and swag giveaways.
Last week’s post about the Ducati 1199 café racer custom featured photographs snapped outside the Netherlands residing MotoPuro shop. This weekend I received a link to their official photos and press release, which gave me some more insight and background into this build.
After giving Pandora a makeover I have newfound understand for all motorcycle builds, even the ratty ones with duct tape and zip ties in place of metal bracketry and hose clamps. Perhaps some leave me with a deeper sense of respect for the person who spent hours staring at the machine, but I can appreciate them all none the less.
The lack of exposed wires and cables, the cafe racer style tail section that slopes into the existing lines of the Panigale bodywork… these are things to notice.
Over two long years, with help from so many amazing people, I’ve finally got the Monster on the road. As I mentioned in my previous announcement, "Pandora’s Box" rides well but needs tweaking. In the past few days, with some helping hands, I’ve tweaked the carbs a bit and undone some damage from the previous owner(s). While my test riding the other day way nice, it was limited to a 20 mile radius of my place for obvious reasons. Can’t go braaping off into the sunset until you’ve got the gremlins hammered out.
Today, rather than watching the Super Bowl, my friend Jess and I hit the road toward Campo on Hwy 94 from San Diego. A ride I’d already done twice, it was a good choice for stretching Pandora’s legs… or tires.
I have to say… the Monster does well in the twisties.
