Sitting at a stop light near my house while running errands today I spotted a group of bobbers rolling past heading toward Downtown Ventura. After stopping by the gas station I rolled down Main Street to see if I could spot them and take some photos… lo! There they were!

Not one, not two, but SEVEN custom bobbers all in one spot. A friend of mine told me they had just been up at See See’s in Portland and that they’re road tripping from Mexico City. Gotta love the Powerplant bike, seriously good looking.

Born Free 6: The Ugly Ducling

Wandering the parking lot of Born Free 6 a couple weekends ago, I got excited every time I saw a cafe racer, tracker, vintage UJM, and especially Ducati. In a sea of Harley Davidson and unique choppers, they stand out like a sore thumb. Just like this custom Ducati 750SS did, which I dubbed “The Ugly Ducling”.

The good looking open clutch cover, clean body, tidy undertail exhaust and bare tank kept me looking. What… what is going on here?

Robyn Diamond pulls off a spreader with a sassy smile. Being only a little familiar with stunt riding terms, I thought this was a highchair wheelie.
However, Tice from XDL learned me right, "If your legs are behind your hands and you’re spreading your legs it’s a spreader. If your legs are between your hands over the front of the triples it’s a highchair."

Visitor from Germany: MXRTW

Last week I got an email from a fellow named Max who’s traveling the world on his motorbike. He told me he was cruising down the California Coast and asked to visit the shop and I this week. I adore meeting other motorcyclists, people on long adventures, and readers… so of course I agreed! Yesterday he rolled up to the compound gate on his Honda Africa Twin and greeted me with a huge wave. The first thing he said, “I love riding in this country! It is so beautiful, all the people are so nice, and gasoline is so cheap!”

We traded stories from the road, he told me about where his travels have taken him so far, and where he’s headed. The guy has been on an amazing adventure indeed- he began his journey at the end of August 2013, traveling through over 20 countries, and ending in the USA for a six more months on the road.

This is my babely lady friend Jessica McLean riding out of Born Free 6 at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, CA. I’m really happy to have been able to see her this weekend, albeit briefly, and want to wish her a biggol’ HAPPY BIRTHDAY on this here interwebs.
She was a pillar of kick ass friendship while I was living in San Diego, and without her I probably would have been sad and lonely a lot of the time I lived there. Y’all probably don’t know, but I’m sort of a hermit. Jess’ infectious happiness and lust for fun can’t be contained in her own body and therefore if you’re lucky enough to be around her, you can’t help but feel stoked on life.
Love you lady.

My buddy Dave Zemla and his two kids, "Bunch of years ago, Hodge Road off the 15. It’s good to be a dad."
His daughter Paige, on the right, now has her own motorcycle project… she’s restoring a Honda CT90 postie bike with the help of her rad Dad. She’s only 15!
