Stopped by Tri-County Motorcycle Salvage in Ventura, CA yesterday just in time before they closed before the weekend at 5p. Tons of shocks, cables, bars, dirtbike bodywork, wheels, carbs, branded wrenches (probably from road side tool kits), luggage racks… and not one metal fender for the Harley DualSporty project (which is the whole reason I went)

I did pick up a ton of wrenches though (more on my plans for those later) and Wolf found an awesome clutch-and-brake double lever. Never seen one of these in person except the types that stunt riders have on their motorcycles.

You’ve probably seen photos from “The Snake” without even realizing- it’s a 21-turn portion of Mulholland Highway just above the Rock Store. “Edwards’ Corner” is the last turn heading uphill through the snake and is rather internet famous for capturing motorcyclists outriding their bike, talent, and/or conditions.

Went to a few antique and vintage shops today in Ventura… awesome stores and a couple scores. Rotations was by far my favorite, with the 50cc Indian minibike, vintage motorcycle stuff sprinkled throughout a bunch of other wares including old street signage and antique photos of women and motorcycles. I snagged an old pair of leather motorcycle pants there, and the owl business card holder at Time Bomb.

Good stuff.

Montgomery Motorcycles, San Clemente

Today I went up to San Onofre and San Clemente to visit my friend Justin who runs the Peanut Butter Coast blog. He’s down from Seattle with his friend Chris on a surfing adventure road trip dubbed 'The Peelgrimage'. After food, he showed me a cool motorcycle shop he had stumbled upon, Montomery Motorcycles.

San Clemente, with a small population of some 60k people, caught me off guard with the super cool vintage motorcycle shop. It’s only about an hour from San Diego, but I didn’t know of much going on there besides nice surf.

Friday night therapy- I’m up in Ventura visiting friends and working on Caroline’s Dual Sporty Project with the talented Jeff Wolf. Last night we spent some time grinding, cutting, and welding.

He and I had one welding lesson before, almost a year ago… I put my skills to the test again last night modifying the tank luggage rack I found at a swap meet so it’ll sit on the 360 tank. The practice welds above were much better than the one I did on the rack- so it goes. Time and practice, time and practice. (Note: the wider weld was actually practice bridging a gap.)

More photos from the process and final product later.

Visited Iron & Resin in Ventura, CA today. While I stopped by once before, my exploration of the store was limited by my bladder’s demands so I wanted to go back and take a closer look.

Mainly a retail apparel shop, they also carry wonderful accessories including classy bags, camping equipage, and entertaining baubles. Handy flasks and tool rolls through vintage boots and leather jackets. Bathing suits and surfing stuff, cocktail guides and shot glasses… the list goes on. Seemingly helter skelter but so very well put together, and all fitting a nice beachy mood. Makes sense, being in Ventura and all (which I learned today had a population of just over 100,000). It goes along well with their tagline, “Freedom Riders Supply Co.”

I especially liked the Hunter S. Thompson, “Faster, Faster” art near the entrance.

Sunday Mass Hosted by ESMB

After the shoot with Shaik Ridzwan, I finally made it to a Sunday Mass event at Deus ex Machina in Venice Beach. This time hosted by East Side Moto Babes and taking place after the big Venice Vintage swap meet (website) and VVMC ride, the parking lot was completely packed. Sunday Mass was literally massive.

Bikes of every style, riders of every experience level. So much fun was had!

Had the pleasure of shooting with Shaik Ridzwan of the Mighty Motor this weekend in downtown Los Angeles with Pandora.

The location under third street not only looked rad but kept me out of the super hot sun. It was some 82°F in LA on Sunday even by 11a. It also allowed for a super cool aerial photo of the Monster.
