I was/am featured in Cycle Canada’s Nov/Dec issues. Oddly enough, I was the first motolady to be featured in the “Man & Machine” section. Go figure! :)

Thanks for sending JJ, and congratulations.

Colorful Countryside: Riding the Explorers’ Edge

image

A place where traffic moves aside to let you pass, the vibrant colors of fall leaves fill your field of vision, roads are open and inviting… my Northern adventure was full of good times. The best parts? Doing it all on the BMW f650GS, and being in great company.

The last of my Canada adventure riding the Explorers’ Edge… Top to bottom, left to right. We got rained out pretty hard at the end of the trip, torrential downpour on the freeway. My rain pants turned out to be a little too short (testing on the road, sometimes stupid of me) and despite being snapped tight around the outside of my boots, failed and wicked water to my pants and into my boots. Riding with about an inch of water kind of sucked, but we headed to the hotel and got warm in awesome new sweaters.

The team of riders was a great one- we had Graeme Jones from Inside Motorcyles Magazine, David Burbach from RoadRunner Magazine, and Ron Keys from Motorcycle Mojo. I really couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to ride with, we had a great time on and off the bikes. Amazing conversation, and very knowledgeable people.

We arrived at the hotel in Gravenhurst, did some more photo and video, and hit a great small steak house called Andreas. Flambe at the table, baked potatoes, and whiskey! It was a good end to the evening.

My Chrome Industries Niko bag that I picked up just before flying out served me amazingly well, taking stress off carrying gear in rain as well as getting me through airport security with ease.

See you soon, Portland!

MotoLady… where the wild things are edition! Haha. Mike Jacobs (What A Ride, Ontario Moto Roads) snapped this pic when the photo/videographers were doing their thing. There will be a short video by Adam Wood from our Ride the Edge weekend adventures as well as some amazing photographs by Virgil Knapp.
Headed home to Portland today!

Headed home to Portland today!

After lunch yesterday Virgil Knapp (photographer) and Adam Wood (videographer) stashed themselves in the back of the minivan and took some photo and video (which turned out amazing, you’ll see) before we made our way to the amazingly awesome Woodland Echoes Resort.

A cabin in the woods on the lake, with a jacuzzi, and a fish fry in the hall! What motorcycle traveller could ask for more!? Maybe life size chess? They have that too.

Also, a baby dragonfly graced my motorcycle, and I took a power nap laying on it.

Day 2 of the Canada adventure… Huntsville to Parry Sound via Highway 520 and Bunny Trail. Stopped at the Midlothian Castle and Screaming heads… crazy art and house built by some guy in the middle of nowhere. Having lunch now.

Super short iphone capture of the footage Adam Wood’s camera yesterday- he was shooting video some of today for this trip. He and Mike Jacobs (of Ontario Moto Roads) discuss in the backgroundhow great his video is (well, that’s what they say more or less.) PS. Probably don’t have the volume up on your device when you watch this.

The first half of our adventure today was pretty wet, though we only got actively rained on for maybe 30 minutes which isn’t too bad. Two BMWs out front, followed by two Harleys.

Flying out of Portland tomorrow and into Toronto, Canada for the 2013 Riding the Edge Press trip. Five of us are riding off in Ontario, doing 1000 miles in five days. It may get down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit (3 degrees Celsius) and should be raining the whole time.

I’m from Portland so rain ain’t no thang- this will be a blast! To get an idea of where I’ll be, and things I’ll see… read about the Explorers’ Edge and hit this video (below).

Today I met a wonderful chap from Canada- Tamlyn Beesley is on a 40 day motorcycle road trip and when he passed through Portland briefly we met up for coffee at See See!

He told me tales of the 108 degree Mojave, and first gear turns of Bible Creek Rd in Oregon (which I had never been on… gasp). It’s always nice meeting people on their road trips, even if it makes me a bit jealous.

Ever imagined what it would be like to be chased by a dangerous animal on a motorcycle? Well, Tim Bartlett found out while joy riding his new bike on Hwy 93 in Canada when he almost hit a lone wolf on the highway.

Apparently Tim almost hit the wolf while riding in Kootenay National Park on Saturday, and returned to the scene where the wolf had appeared. At that point the animal jumped back over the concrete barrier, crossed a lane of traffic, and began the chase that lasted just over a half mile (about a kilometer).

Those Canadians see a snow dusting like that and to them it might as well be summertime!
