Why yes, I did see this guy on a raked out Harley blast by me to get on the freeway, and yes I did haul ass to catch up and grab a shot of him. He looked over right as I snapped the pic, gave me a smile and we exchanged hand signals.
Nice meetin’ ya on the road, dude!

My dude Wolf got workin’ on his XS650 chopper project again last night. Plans were made to have it done by Born Free this weekend, but as happens with building motorcycles, it had to be put on hiatus for a little while.
Don’t have a lift? Use a cinderblock. Ghetto fabulousness.

Dirt Quake USA

In 2012 Sideburn Magazine dreamt up a crazy idea to bring a variety riders together for dirty competition- from professionals to novices, everyone (and all types of bikes) were welcome on the dirt track. The original Dirt Quake event took place in Coventry, Canada.

This year Sideburn and See See Motorcycles teamed up to bring Dirt Quake to the USA… specifically the Pacific Northwest about an hour outside of Portland. I can’t think of a better place to host it, either. A plethora of bikes and folks made it out- from serious racers to costumed jokesters, well prepped dirt bikes to overweight baggers… everyone had a blast on the dirt track.

Can’t help but love a giant Teletubby riding a chopper with a suicide shifter around a dirt track. There was even a ladies only class (as well as an inappropriate street bike class)!

Yuriko rides a sparkly pink and purple 1976 Shovelhead chopper… she’s a petite little lady… probably 5’ even. She’s perfected kicking it over with the whole weight of her body. Size isn’t everything.
I frequently hear ladies saying, “I’m too short for that bike” and Yuri proves that it’s a matter of determination. Her bike is very custom, making it fit her much better than a lot of stock bikes would. However these bikes are still quite heavy… it’s all about bike control. Practice makes perfect!

So in case you missed the other announcements, I’m leaving San Diego for greener pastures- in other words I’m moving up to Ventura (about an hour north of LA) into a bad ass shop / apartment combo and I couldn’t be more excited about it.

Yesterday Jeff Wolf and I did some spring cleaning in preparation for my arrival and influx of more stuff. I brought the Harley Dual Sporty project and my tools up a couple weeks ago, and at the end of this week I’ll be moving in all my personal stuff. We’ll be building another work bench with Enrique (the other fella who inhabits the shop and does a lot of wood working stuff) and then it’ll all pretty much be on lock.

It’s nice to have more space for my stuff and have use of a nice clean shop with good quality tools… there’s really nothing like it. Being able to walk 20 feet away and chop, weld, and grind whatever you want… heaven.

I’m finally going to feel home.

The bikes you see are a pretty fun collection, and we’re not even done moving the Monster in! My Honda CB125s project, Enrique’s 1982 KZ1000, his KZ1000 police bike chopper, Wolf’s XS650 chopper, and his CB350 cafe racer project.

A girl and her chopper- oh so 60’s looking, but it’s actually a photograph by Mark Choiniere of Crude Behavior.

Some shots of Jeff Wolf (of Wolf Designs) working on his XS650 chopper at the shop in Ventura, CA. The amount of effort put into all the little details like frame gussets makes this a very unique bike… can’t wait to see it done!
