It’s official, the Dual Sporty project has begun… I’d previously announced the base bike for the build but plans have changed for the better. This is my friend Caroline Patterson's 2001 883, and she's given me the go ahead to do with it what I wish. Above are the 'before' photos to use for comparison later… MotoLady motorcycle makeover commencing!

I’ve already removed 20+ lbs of parts, replaced the shocks with Burly Brand stilettos, swapped out to scrambler style bars etc. I’m currently working out the new tank and how it will work with the cafe racer Burly seat/tail section and locating the other parts I want to use.

Since the Monster Project updates are still needing to be finished, don’t expect a ton of in depth posts on this build until I’m caught up on Pandora’s… but in the mean time I’ll be posting ‘live’ tidbits on the MotoLady instagram, facebook, and twitter as per usual.

Make sure to check out my mini-shoot with Caroline and her bike

Pandora’s Out of the Box: First Real Monster Ride

Over two long years, with help from so many amazing people, I’ve finally got the Monster on the road. As I mentioned in my previous announcement, "Pandora’s Box" rides well but needs tweaking. In the past few days, with some helping hands, I’ve tweaked the carbs a bit and undone some damage from the previous owner(s). While my test riding the other day way nice, it was limited to a 20 mile radius of my place for obvious reasons. Can’t go braaping off into the sunset until you’ve got the gremlins hammered out.

Today, rather than watching the Super Bowl, my friend Jess and I hit the road toward Campo on Hwy 94 from San Diego. A ride I’d already done twice, it was a good choice for stretching Pandora’s legs… or tires.

I have to say… the Monster does well in the twisties.

This image was posted all over tumblr- I had to know where it came from. So perfect, the moving front wheel and shadow of rider superimposed on pavement. Lo- it’s a screenshot from the 6 Over preview/trailer by Wild Honey Productions.

Quite possibly the coolest motorcycle cop ever, and perhaps the luckiest guy on a CBR600RR ever… “Ain’t you cold?” he says to the Officer sporting a short sleeve shirt on his turbo Harley police bike. Then, “Wanna race?” to which the Officer replies, “I got a turbo in this one.”

Supposedly after all the kerfluffle this viral video caused, the poor guy had to resign. Doesn’t surprise me, sounds like they’re in the south. Us American’s love horsepower, but they sure as hell don’t like being made to look stupid by their government employees either.

There are so many great things about this in progress custom Harley from Kenneth ‘Bobcat’ Wright at MotoGalore in Portland, OR. I’m in love, honestly… check out the front disc brake! Swoon.

Resting in the sunshine in the middle of a ride, one can feel a sense of wholeness that feels almost too easy to achieve. The joys of riding a motorcycle cannot be captured with one smile, one photograph, or one sentence. The energy is such that echoes on and on through time, ebbing and flowing with our personal goals and abilities… but it never fades away.

I’ve often found myself wishing I could sleep in bed with my motorcycle, too.
