Mitch Sander’s 1966 Triumph Bonneville

A while back (seriously, a while ago) I met Mitch Sander up in Yakima, WA (he now lives in Seattle) through our mutual friend Dave Buchanan (redandblackattack.tumblr.com) and laid eyes on his beautiful Triumph. It’s a garage built 1966 Bonneville hard tail with a modern front end.

We all sat down and ate burritos and talked about bikes, I picked his brain about his build because dammit… I would so love to ride that thing. It’s classy, functional, sounds awesome, and has history. Read on for my interview with Mitch.

Some photos for Jada’s fans- sunshine and matching sunglasses. Stylin’ motomama.

A lesson to be learned from a lovely lady- why you should wear a full face helmet.

This is not an invitation to lecture the lovely Emma Bass- she kindly allowed me to post these photos to help educate y’all with some real life stuff.

No, you don’t have to wear gear, a full face helmet, or gloves when you ride. You can get away with a DOT half helmet (aka skull bucket or skid lid) paired with shorts and flip flops. But please please please realize that cars and their drivers are unpredictable, unaware, and often aggressive

A Dodge Ram attempted to blast across four lanes of traffic right in front of her and her Triumph Bonneville, leaving her bike embedded in the side of the truck. She was traveling the speed limit (35mph) and was not lane splitting (it is legal in California). She is extremely lucky to have escaped with minor bruises, including this one to her chin.

Yet another teaser photo of Mitch Sander's beeeautiful 1966 Triumph Bonneville custom. He built this thing from the engine out himself…. it still amazes me. Now that is Garage Built.
I’ll later be doing an article on his bike… pointing out small details like the speedo placed next to the seat.

Behold the 1966 Triumph Bonneville custom hard-tail bobber owned and built by Mitch Sander.
I got to meet this really cool cat over the weekend who found this Bonny engine and then built around it. He did it all himself, including dreaming up a GSXR front end swap.
More photos and backstory soon to come. Photograph by yours truly.

Gary Baker from Georgia has a really cute little moto-romance story:
He was unhappy with his stock 1979 Triumph Bonneville Special, so he decided to go custom. He and Diane, his girlfriend at the time, stripped the bike down to the frame and removed all the extra crap. They were having problems- it was only running on one cylinder. Diane sat and stared at the wiring diagram and said “how do you have the coils hooked up?” A few wire swaps later, the Bonnie was alive and well.
Gary and Diane have now been married 23 years. Photo circa 1986.
