Chris came over today to help us wrench on Justin’s bike. New 4 into 1 exhaust meant new header gaskets, cutting/dremmeling out the airbox, installing pod air filters, and re-jetting the carbs. I took photos with my real camera that I’m sure will end up here, but in the mean time here’s some cool instagram shots.

Did 170ish miles today. So hot, but so good. I learned something: federal jacket unbuttoned leaves chest open to bees flying into it at 80mph.

Sold my Maxim tonight. It sure is bittersweet, saying goodbye to my first bike.

Todays project- paint it black. Justin’s Maxim has a lot of aluminum that has worn over time. Solution? Metal primer and matte black spray paint.

Last ride of the year! Since my bikes are down, I rode Justin’s ‘82 Maxim 650 (on the right) which is very similar to mine but ooooh, amazing. Whereas mine is… a POS at the moment. Chris rode his GSXR 750 (left). Did you ride today? Send me your photos!

Justin’s 1982 Yamaha XJ Maxim 650 the day he got it (top) and today (bottom). It’s amazing how much small upgrades can completely change a bike’s ride-ability and look. Carb cleaning, exhaust patches, exhaust wrap, new handlebars and mirrors, grip warmers, new rear suspension, fork seals, new headlight bulb, and emergency tool kit in custom leather fork bag.

A quick photo of me from today- it’s been REALLY nice this weekend. I’m borrowing Brooklyn’s white leather jacket… epic!

Custom 1980 Yamaha XJ Maxim 650. Can’t believe I didn’t buy this- was $1200 on Portland craigslist. It’s my bike, but ratted and bobbed. They even did the back fender flip that I lust after to heavily… This is pretty much precisely what I want my bike to look like.

Hey, my first bike was a 1980 Yamaha XS 850. IT had a custome tank and seat but otherwise the same bike (lil more ccs). Those lil guys are fun to ride around town. Get it girl!  - from (2skool4cool)

Hey, thanks for writing! The Yamaha XS 850 has a ton more zip than my little bike (not that she’s lacking in ANY way of course..) because it’s a chain driven and also less heavy. It’s about 550 lbs, mine is about 600 and the engine isn’t as powerful. It’s a little more classic looking in my opinion, too. But I love my bike, with a little more tweaking she’ll be perfect. I’d love to see yours! :)

This is a nice shot of the 1980 XS 850 in Cafe Form… I love the tank.
